Celebrating 9 Years In Business with 5 Food Blogger FAQs!

| |

They say time flies when you’re having fun… and they are right! Nine years ago I created my own website, registered my business, ordered some business cards and got to work creating a career that would turn out to bring me more joy than I could imagine! It hasn’t been all smooth sailing. The truth is it took years before Healthy Grocery Girl became my full-time job. I took a lot of risks and worked many long nights to see Healthy Grocery Girl become a reality!

To celebrate 9 years of business I am answering 5 of the most commonly asked questions I receive about starting a business, being a Food Blogger, YouTuber and Registered Dietitian!

What Does A Typical Day Look Like For You

Before my daughter was born I would work 8  – 10 hour a days, 6 -7 days a week! My job was my passion, hobby and career. I love what I do.

Now as a stay at home mom and work from home mom, my days look very different! Our day starts at 6am and ends around 7pm. In between those hours I’m juggling motherhood, work oh and a girl has to eat too! I get most of my work done during her 2 naps each day. When she is awake I am with her playing, reading, nursing, making meals and trying to squeeze in a home workout if I’m lucky!

Everyday: Everyday I have emails to keep up with, blog posts to write and recipes to develop as well as social media to manage and engage with.

Each Week: Every week we create blog posts and shoot recipe videos which require recipe development, grocery shopping, filming, photography, editing the video and editing the photos, uploading all the content to the website, YouTube and social media and writing social posts.

Team Work! My husband also works for Healthy Grocery Girl full-time and while he works on the business more than I do currently editing videos, managing our membership, accounting and so much more… He is available if I need him to play with Ella while I take a work meeting. You can learn more about the HGG Team here!

Work Life Balance: I don’t believe there is a perfect work-life-parenting balance… someday’s I feel guilty when I am with my daughter thinking I should be working more. But then when I’m working I feel guilty I’m not with my daughter. We are continuously finding a way to blend working from home, caring for our daughter and living a lifestyle that works for us. At the end of the day, Ella is our top priority. My mindset is that work will always be there but Ella will only be little for so long.

How Do You Make A Living?

I learned early on as an Entrepreneur the importance of creating multiple income streams. This way all of your financial “eggs” are not in one basket. At Healthy Grocery Girl our main source of income come from sponsored content creation (such as blog posts, video or social media posts), affiliate links as well as our Healthy Grocery Girl Membership. As a Registered Dietitian, I also work as an Ambassador, Spokesperson, Video Host and Producer, Nutrition Expert For Television and Magazines and I have also written two books. I love the variety!

For example, this blog post is sponsored by Mingle Mocktails! They have partnered with us for a GIVEAWAY to celebrate Healthy Grocery Girl turning 9 years old! Click here to participate in the giveaway in Instagram!

Do You Do Take Your Own Photos and Shoot Your Own Videos?

Yes! We are self-taught and continue to learn and improve everyday. I have a camera in my hand every day.

How Would You Describe Your Nutrition and Food Philosophy?

Eat real food, mostly plants and make up your own food rules. Do what works best for your body. It’s okay if how you eat does not fit a label. I don’t believe in diets or deprivation, rather I believe in nourishing yourself in a way that is simple, sustainable and always delicious. At Healthy Grocery Girl we create plant-powered recipes because I believe we can all benefit from eating more plants.

What Advice Do You Have For Someone Who Wants To Become A Registered Dietitian?

The best thing you can do is get hands-on experience. Intern, volunteer & see what it’s really like to work in the field you are interested in. Interning & volunteering is also a wonderful way to build relationships and connections, which are so important for a successful and satisfying career. I originally thought I wanted to work as Registered Dietitian in a clinical hospital setting, however after my Dietetic Internship I realized that the hospital setting was not the best fit for me given my creative and entrepreneurial passions.

All careers take time to build, so just get started and don’t give up. You must believe in yourself more than anyone else!! It’s hard for someone else to invest in you if you have not taken any steps or time to invest in yourself or your own business or career.

Lastly, do what you love and find a way to make that into a career that provides for you! Anything is possible if you’re willing to work for it, ask for what you want and just go for it! You can do it!

THANK YOU!

Lastly, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who reads our blog, watches our videos and connects with Healthy Grocery Girl on Social Media. We could not do what we do without you and we are so grateful for your friendship all these years! I know some of you have been apart of the Healthy Grocery Girl community from the very, very beginning!
