5 Ways To Enjoy More Salsa
Hi Friends! Welcome back to Healthy Grocery GirlMay is National Salsa Month and to celebrate I have 5 healthy ways to enjoy more salsa. Salsa is packed with plant-powered ingredients such as tomatoes, onions and chili peppers.
Did you know tomatoes are a great source of the immune boosting vitamin C as well as potassium, folate and vitamin K? Tomatoes are also a source of lycopene, which has been linked to many health benefits including heart and skin health.
Onions are nutrient dense, which means they are low in calories and high in vitamins and minerals. Packed with inflammation-fighting antioxidants, onions can decrease triglycerides and reduce cholesterol levels, all of which can support heart health. Onions can also support healthy blood sugar levels, which is beneficial for individuals with diabetes or Pre-Diabetes. What’s even more is that impressive onions have incredible antibacterial properties.
Besides bringing the heat, chili peppers are rich in vitamins, minerals and Plant Compounds such as vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium, copper, vitamin A and capsaicin. Capsaicin is the plant-compound responsible for chili peppers spicy hot flavor and many health benefits. Research studies have shown that Capsaicin can support weight loss by decreasing appetite and increasing fat burning.

Whether it’s a burger, breakfast eggs, potatoes or more, swap ketchup for salsa. It’s the ultimate healthy condiment!

A generous pour of salsa is a great alternative to salad dressing. Some store-bought salad dressings can be high in sugar, sodium and calories. Salsa is a fresh and fun way to flavor a salad! TheHERDEZ® brandoffersa variety of salsa flavors to keep your salads interesting!
